Nut Packing

Whether it is fresh flowers or produce from the field or packaging for prepared foods, Astro Packaging provides reliable packaging products that ensure physical protection while being cost efficient.  In an effort to reduce end-user processing time, labor costs and packaging waste, Astro Packaging has begun to offer hot melt adhesives in new finger-sized, ready-to-use packets.  These convenient packets load directly into the dispensing tank where the packet’s dry outer casing melts with the adhesive. Our machinery program incorporates machine technology that streamlines the packaging process. Designed to replace sticky cavity packaging and its associated plastic waste, new hot melt packets are available in 28-pound boxes.


Today cold seal adhesive systems used for flexible food packaging are often based on natural rubber latex, offering a unique combination of adhesion and cohesive strength in the required range but without tackiness. Unfortunately natural rubber latex solutions suffer from limited stability on high shear, high speed production lines as well as allergy, odor and quality variations that can be problematic. Synthetic alternatives usually do not meet the low tackiness requirements but IR latex is the perfect alternative to natural rubber latex, keeping the required balance of desired properties while eliminating allergy, odor and consistency problems.

Research of diffusion of adhesives Components in food packaging
The main objective of this project was to determine the composition of two adhesives, natural and synthetic rubber, the potential of migration of its compounds, estimated from their partition and diffusion coefficients. The selected analytical technique was the solid phase micro extraction coupled to gas chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (HS-SPME-GCMS). A selection of the best fiber was done. After that the chromatographic conditions and extraction method were optimized using the Modde program The identified compounds were classified according to their toxicity by means of Toxtree program. Analytical characteristics were obtained from each of the methods of quantification, and it was concluded that the SPME showed lower detection limits (pg/g) than direct injection (μg/g) but higher RSD.
The 4-cyanocyclohexene was the most toxic compound identified and the BHT was the
compound found in highest concentration (165.5 μg/g). In general, the concentrations of the analytes identified in the CN adhesive (natural rubber) were greater than those identified in CS adhesive (synthetic rubber). In partition tests, the equilibrium concentration in the adhesive of the majority of the analyzed compounds, increased with temperature, except for 4-cyanocyclohexene (CS adhesive/paper) and phenyl isothiocyanate (CN adhesive/PVC). As regards the supports, a III grade toxic compound, 2,3-dihydro-3-phenyl-1,1,3-trimethyl-1Hindene
